a Bible ... Communist?
this morning I received a book that I've been waiting a long time since I had actually discovered the photographs of Frédéric
Chaubin in a fashion magazine. This book CCCP, Cosmic communist constructions photographed is for lovers architectural Brutalism and fancies a kind of bible.
Each page is an opportunity to gawk in disbelief, and puts us on the verge of hysterics as the glee and wonder are great.
The buildings are arranged by categories and are thus traverses the vast Soviet empire to meet construction really scary, subjugating as is often the monsters.
We had already mentioned some
here, here
or
here.
But the other discovery it is also the great poetry of certain structures that offer a formal freedom, decorative and inventive very surprising.
Photographs of Mr. Chaubin documentary records are simple and perfectly put forward the sensation of meeting. No effect, no artistic games but not cold hardness, objectivity vain and cynical.
It is thus sometimes the feet in the snow before the reality of the disaster with cons-days and even reflections on the glass.
All this makes the trip affordable, gives us an incredible feeling to follow him as if we were behind him at every moment, surprised happy to meet and places for what they are today.
is also the quality of this book is not just a picture book and its preface offers a critical historical analysis and well felt.
Two very small regret: photographs really cut in two by the layout and an index of architects missing.
But ... this is really nothing and this book is undoubtedly an event, one of those books that are dated, we must have because it is much more than a statement, almost the invention of a genre.
Then I look in my collection some similarities with the work of Mr. Chaubin and I found, shame, finally very little!
So there is no hesitation and we made this gift because it is more a book quite affordable as published by Taschen . Quickly, as I order it !
